I know this is a stupid question, but I am having a hell of time trying to program some Orion radios with DOS software. I can program away with Windows software, but DOS gives me an error that says something like "12v 12 error" or something like that when trying to program with DOS.
This happens when I try to program a radio that has previously been programmed with Windows Software. I am only trying to program without reading first (it's my understanding that you can not read a radio with DOS that has been previously programmed with Windows). Anyway, the DOS software gives me an error when trying to program stating that the Features don't match and to reset the radio in program mode and press enter to write new features to the radio. Well, after I do this, it appears to work at first, and then it stops and says "Error 12v something or other..."
I'm a little pissed right now, so I don't know the exact saying. Needless to say, I have to use Windows Radio Maint to get the radio back to life. Once it's back to life, it works great, but is only programmable with Windows.
I'm using a 600 MHz computer. Is this too fast?
If it wasn't for me having to program out of band, I'd just use Windows, but I need to get some HAM channels on a Lowband unit...
Thanks in advance.
Computer speed?
These errors occur on 600 MHz, 166 MHz and 120 MHz machines...
Here are the errors that I experience every time I try to program with DOS. After I press 'F1' to program, it gives me this:
Error: Reading Flash code. Recycle radio power to program special radio code to radio. Press enter to continue.
I press enter and get this:
Special radio code downloaded... and then it stops and displays this:
Radio- Flash error (erase 12v) (12) Press enter to continue.
I press enter and get this:
Error writing special flash radio code.
All of these Orions are this close to Ebay...

The way the guy at MA-Com described to me was that you could program with DOS, but you just couldn't read.
Well, I've tried everything I know to program these things out of band. As soon as I can get an Astro Spectra, the VHF Orion will go to Ebay. I have never in my life had to deal with a radio as stubborn as this...
