I have just recieved 30 GE Delta S or SX (not sure) with s-550 and s-825 heads. There want to be put into service in our Urban Search and Rescue trailers. I am having trouble on locating Programming software and programing cables. Not sure of what I need. Can anyone help?

First, you don't need to do any programming on the S-550 control head. It is a scan head that just steers the radio. You do need to look and see just what version of that head you have. The early versions of that head had a battery about the size of a quarter that is in the back of it. Takes tearing the head apart to change it. The battery only lasts about a year. Keeps the scan info alive. When it goes dead, the head has a hard time scanning.
The S-825 has a computer PC driven software package. There should be a number of sources of it available on the web. Just do a search for the S-825 and you should find it. It will take an interface box to work between the radio and the head. Then you need to make up a programming cable to go between the head and the interface.
As for the Delta S and SX radios, they have an EEPROM in the radio. If you use the S-550 head, you will need to program the radio only. If you use the S-825 head, you can have the head download the info into the radio for all the channel information. You just have to spend some time at the computer to set up your files.
The Delta S is a narrow frequency range radio. In other words, the lowest to the highest frequency spread. The Delta S comes in a number of flavors. You didn't tell us what band these radios are in. They come in low band, VHF and UHF.
When you talk about Delta SX, it will be VHF or UHF. These are wide frequency spread radios. In VHF, you should be able to go from about 146.5 to about 165 or so. Again this is a little dependent on the version revision of the radio.
As for UHF, not sure just how far you will be able to spread them. I have done a UHF Deltas SX from the 444 ham frequencies to about 466 repeaters.

I made a statement mistake in my last post. On the S-825, it takes an interface box to go between the head and the computer to program it.
