Kenwood TK-630 Programming Question

Post by wb4ivb »

Hi,

I am having a problem "reading the radio" on the Kenwood TK-630H. I am using the KPG-4 Cable and KPG-7D software program. I do not have the manual. I have tried two different TK-630H radios, same problem. I have switched Comm Ports, same problem. My question is: Does the TK-630 have to be put into the programming mode via some method other than via the software program, or should it respond directly from the computer keyboard. If it should respond directly from the computer keyboard command, "Read Radio", then I assume I have either a defective cable or software.

Good thought, but had no luck trying that either. I also tried some other combinations with no luck.

 Hold down the left lower button on the basic head, numeric head only, while powering up. Make sure the vehicle is running. I had the same problem. seems the radio is also voltage sensitive for programming.

If it is the alpha head, you still hold down one of the function keys as you power up, just cannnot remember which one.

Hop this helps.

Paul,

Thanks very much for the info. Your instructions below worked. As for the other problem with the data seeming to be corupted after it was read..........I tried a computer with a slower processor, and it worked fine.

Thanks again,
Henry
