Problems reading a TK-840

Post by Twisted_Pear »

I'm having some trouble reading a TK840. I put the radio into Program mode (power-up and hold sys-down) but it will just not communicate. The radio does have a CSI tone-remote box connected to the rear which I'm beginning to think is the problem (and needs to be disconnected to read the radio). Comm port settings are correct. Am using the software in DOS 6.22.

Am I missing a step somewhere? My gear works fine for TK880s.

840

A buddy of mine works on a few 840's. Sometimes he gets one that won't read and write. There is a resistor in the control head that has been clipped. Have a look for anything that looks amiss.

The 840 does not have a "program "mode, the software will do that for you.Make sure that the A+ is on the mic jack(I forget what pin). Also if it is different software, you could try dumping in a new program with the version that you have.

I had tried it without and no change. It does show "PROGRAM" when you try the power-up method I mentioned :-?. I've also checked Pin 1 to make sure it was sending out 12~V, and it is. I'd figure that's what gets turned off if you snip that resistor ka7wnf mentioned.

If I get it to work I'll post the resolution.

[edit: not the tone remote interface]
