TK-630H Alpha Numeric Upgrade

Post by hfmiller »

I recently purchased 3 KCH-5 upgrade kits for TK-630H to 99 Channel/Alpha Numeric. I received the following help from the supplier, but do not have a schematic.

Can anyone help on whether both resistors need to be removed?

Original Question
"I recently purchased 3 KCH-5 upgrade kits and need a clearification. To
upgrade a TK-630H to have both 99 channels and alpha-numeric display do you install both chips, one in the control unit and one in the control head. The directions are not clear because it ask you to remove R156 twice."

Answer
"Yes, you'll need to install one in the head, and one in the actual radio. If you have the 99ch head (two character display), the chip is usually soldered in and will need to be desoldered and replaced. There is a resistor that needs to be removed in both the head and in the radio. The "H" models may differ slightly as to which resistor needs to be removed, if there's any doubt you should consult the "H" manual (we don't have one unfortunately)."
