Kenwood TK-7150/8150 MDC1200

Post by e911god »

I was told an aftermarket board is available for the TK-7150/8150 series mobiles. My question is, once installed, can the MDC ID be changed? Also, does it allow MDC by channel in the software or does it always transmit MDC.

Situation...Dispatch requires MDC1200 to identify units on the repeater channel and we like the Kenwood equipment alot better than the Mot's. We need the aftermarket board in order to be in complaince. However, we do not want to transmit on every channel..such as when contact the local hospital to give patient reports, etc.

AFAIK, add-on boards are usually programmed at their factory. To reprogram them you need the respective manufacturer's programming interface/programmer and maybe even s/w. Some boards have an IR interface so removal or opening up the radio isn't required. However, depending upon how the board fits into the radio it may have its IR interface removed so then you would need to use the interface cable and open the radio. You cannot reprogram the actual ID sent or its feature-set via Kenwood's radio s/w. You can set PTT ID under Edit-Extended Function-Optional Board to ANI. Then you would enable PTT ID on each channel you wanted it on.
