How exactly did you "cut" the resistors? What exactly were the issues it had after you did that? I'm thinking something was inadvertently damaged. Peter

Yes, the dot is pin 1 and there is a silkscreened picture of the IC on the boar
d showing proper orientation.

It's soldered on, right? If so I hope you didn't burn the chip. I assume you know how to solder so.... Do you have to select the radio and head type in the s/w before reading the radio?

The IC's plug in on the alpha head as well as the deck. The radio can be read and it tells the software what it "thinks" it is.With the 30 series, you can tell it it is anything you want, whether it likes it is another matter!
I too wonder howthe resistors were cut? Also verify that you cut the correct ones,it is easy to cut the wrong one on the alpha head(I managed to do the wrong one )and had the same error on the head and software.

R33 and R156 - Normally I would use a soldering iron, but since I was without one that day, I used a knife blade (carefully!!!!) to get them off. I later went back with a soldering iron to be sure I got everything off. There doesn't appear to be any damage to the board... But this is when things started getting funky. I also made sure that the solder wasn't going off to another pad either.

I assume you are using dos and not a windoze window?
Does your software show any progress when reading it before you get the error,? Check for 12 volts on pin 1 of the mic jack as this feeds the program cable.
