KPG-4 in place of KPG-46

Post by firemanfox »

I was trying to use the KPG-4 to program a tk8150 instead of the KPG-46 (I have been told it is possible if inserted carefully) However it doesn't seem to be working for me. Does anyone have the pin numbers for a RJ45 and what they do (RX, Tx, etc.) so I can make an adapter? Thanks

I try to do extension cable to KPG-4 with RJ-45 connector at the end - it does NOT works with TK-x150, TK-x180 & etc.!!!

My pinout for extenstion cable (KPG-4 pin # / RJ-45 pin #):

- 2 to 3
- 3 to 4
- 6 to 7

Numbering from left to right if you look on connector as shown below:

RJ-11

I use my six pin cable all the time on 8 pin radios,,not sure why your will not work.
The pic of your rj 45 shown you are using the wrong pins, the pins on the outside are not used for programming.

have you specifically used your 6 pin cable on a tk8150? or just in general you have been able to use it in 8 pin radios? I checked all my com ports and setings and it didn't work.

Yes on 7160's and 8150's
Kenwood only has the 4 pin,the 6 pin and the round one for the 690/790/890
mobils.
Can you use your cable on a 6 pin radio to make sure the cable is good and your com port?

I have used my 6 pin cable to program a tk830 it worked just fine, there aren't any buttons or anything special I need to do to put a tk8150 into programming mode is there?

no I don't even get to a password, it just says something along the lines of unable to read device, Although a little red LED illuminates when I plug my cable in, which lead me to believe that it was making contact there

Yeah, pin 2 of 8 pin rj45 is a voltage line to feed the programming cable,it needs to go to what used to be pin 1 on the six pin connector.
pin 4 on rj 45 is tx data and pin 7 is rec data.
