KPG 43 cable

Post by Vern »

I got a KPG 43 programming cable from my dealer. It has a 25 pin connector for the PC connection. I tried to use it with a 25 pin to 9 pin port adapter into a USB to serial adapter. The PC cannot seem to communicate with the radio, although "PC" appears in the radio's display. COM Port 4 is the only available port in the port setup window. I assume the 25 pin to 9 pin adapter is the issue here. I can read/write to the 60 series radios using the proper cable with a 9 pin plug.

I have the same problem with the programming cable for the TK-290 portables.

Is the cable (for 90 series mobiles) available with a 9 pin plug, or is there a port adapter that wll work with this setup?

Thanks,
Vern

Have you tried another adapter? You simply might have a bad one. It happens. I'm surprised your only port is 4. Do you have a modem in this same computer? Is it using port 2? You may have a conflict there.

Yes, I tried a combination of adapters. I assume since the USB to serial adapter was installed in one particular USB port, it's the only comm port available. If I plug the adapter intoa different port, it goes thru the "Found New hardware" thing. The USB adapter has worked well for every other application I used it for. The internal wiring of the 9-25 adapter looks to be correct, according to a diagram I've found on the web. I did send a message to the dealer, but that may take several days to get a response.

Edit:
Cables work fine on a PC with a "real" serial port, just not with the USB adapter. Guess I'm stuck until Kenwood developes a newer cable.
