TK-780 Squelch

Post by ATF1224 »

How do I set the squelch on a TK-780/880? I have both radios and I feel that the setting is too high and i'd like to change it.

Thanks!

Besides the test mode, most of the later Kenwood FPU versions allow you to set "squelch level" under optional features.

There's s two-tiered squelch adjustment. The adjustment under the test mode is made during alignment, and then the user selects a squelch level (from 1 to 16) under Optional Features in the FPU when the radio is programmed (or in models that have a programmable squelch key, selectond on-the-fly using this key).

The test mode adjustment is a three-point adjustment, and you have to adjust squelch open/squelch tight for both wide and narrow band. It's rather a pain, so if you have enough range, I'd use Optional Features setting. If you're at 16 under Optional Features and the radio is still too sensitive, then you will have to adjust the test mode setting.

Older Kenwoods don't have the Optional Features setting, and then you are stuck with doing the test mode adjustment (although the older models are only one point for open and one for tight).
