TK 250 batteries and charger

Post by nobodynoze »

My agency has been slowly removing the secondary radios from our cars and in their infinite wisdom have determined there is no need for us to communicate with other government agencies (via the secondary radio). Therefore I have been forced to press back into service a TK 250 for that purpose. I need to replace the battery pack and believe it to be a KNB 12a (label has worn off). I have found one place that sells a NiCd replacement but I've come across several of the newer NiMH battery pack replacements. I have a KSC 8 compact charger that was used to charge the TK 250 (even though it states specifically to charge only KNB 5/6/7 packs). My question is can the charger charge the newer NiMH battery packs? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just a thought==no expert on batteries, NiMhs are usually charged around the same way as Nicads are. I don't see a problem. Lithium-Ion is where you have to have a diff. charger. Charges diffs: Rule of thumb: the more you charge a batt., the less llife it has. On a new batt., try not to charge it but every few days, depending on how much you use it. Don't completely discharge a batt. EVER! Charge a battery at least twice a month. Hope this helps. By the way, the TK250 was one of the early, best talkin' radios built, hope yours was not a fluke!
