TK-630H for Packet Radio

Post by ve3wpj »

Well I was able to get my Kantronics KPC3+ last night hooked up and transmitting Data, I have to connect another radio tonight to listen but is seems to be working OK so far.

Here is what I did

1 - Retuned the TK-630's VCO into the 6M band - (thanks to a ham in the US no call for the vco info)

2 - Used the 30 Pin out sheet in the files section along with the Kantronics pinout sheet to build the following cable.

KPC3+ TK-630
1 TXD 10 - HN1 Horn Signal Output 1 (Radio Mod)
2 XCD 11 - HN2 Horn Signal Output 2 (Radio Mod)
3 PTT 8 - PTT
5 RXD 4 - DEO (Detect Signal Output)
6 GND 15 - E (earth)
7 EXT-IN 7 - SB DC Power Output after Power Switch

J9 = NOR/CTR Normal, for base station use (default)
J3 = 1/NC RXA unput impedance 10k
J4 = 1/2 Input Equalization off
J6 = CTR/2 EXT-IN is External Power Input
J7 = CTR/2 EXT-IN connects via Radio Port

Radio Mods to get direct TX audio by bassing the MIC circuit and COR

thanks to a US ham and Pyramid Communications

to get MCOR signal, Add a jumper from IC103 Pin 4 to CN106 pin 9 (HN2)
to get TX Data input to radio On the TK-x30 NON G control PCB installa jumper from CN106 Ping 8 *HN1) to VR301 center pin on the RF PCB.

From http://www.pyramidcomm.com/pdf/2012pdf/AN538.PDF

Pyramid has other docs in there support area for G radios

KPC software settings which I had to change.
TXDELAY 100 (the TX seemed to be a little to fast for plain ear listening on my HT as the HT would nto catch it all of the time so I added TX delay and it seem much better your milage will vary)

CD software (if using DEO or unsquelched audio you need to do this or the RVC LED is on 100% of the time.)

XMITLVL 300, I used the CAL feature to set the XMIT audio level so that the packets were sounding good, per KPC's manual

with working through the above I noted that if I now need to use CD software then I co not need to mod the HN2 pin to get MCOR so that modification was not complete and nothing is connected to pin 2 on the KPC3+

I have left things running for the day and we will see whats going on when I get home tonight and see if I get any signal reports back.

I am sure there is a little more playing that will have to go one.
