TK-730/830 Parts Needed?

I have a TK-730 remote mount with alpha head. I have installed the 160 ch upgrade kit. I have been looking for a TK-830 RF deck... What do I need to make this a dual band rig? I have an extra cable (the one that goes from the RF deck to the control head)... Do I need anything else?

I'm usually a Moto guy, but the price was right on the TK-730, so if I can make an affordable dual band just by adding a TK-830, that would be awesome.

Any help would be great!

Yes, I am told that you can use the cable from the deck to the head. However I did not try this because I have decided to sell my 730 and 830. You will have to cut holes in the front plate of the 730 deck to get the cable inside but it should not be to hard. You will aslo need to make sure that you have the actual head connected to the 730 and program it as the main radio. I recieved all this info from this forum at one point or another and have not tried any of it, but trust that they know what they are talking about. GOOD LUCK!

Negative. The deck fronts for the dual band (krk-4db) and the single deck (krk-2) are different. You will need the dual band fronts for this to work. There are different connections and boards inside.

I'm pretty sure the TK-730 I have was used in a dual band set-up when the area went from low band to high band. It is a remote mount and the RF deck has two "cut outs" if you will, in the front where the cable(s) attach and go to the control head. Is there anyway for me to confirm that my 730 is already set up for dual band?

What exactly will I need to add a TK-830 to the mix? I've been looking around ebay, anywhere else I might look?

Deck front with the 2 cutouts should say "KRK-4DB." The 2 ports should be labled "to radio" and "to control head." If it says "KRK-2," you will need to get the other one. You also will have to get the single outlet "KRK-4DB" that goes on the second radio and is labled "to radio." There is also the FAB anc FAC firmware chips inside the radios you will need to switch out, along with soldering some jumpers on the circuit boards inside.

Although not too difficult, it's not just a matter of slapping the parts together and having it work. There is some labor and changes involved.
